The Civil Guard clarifies half a hundred scams in the contracting of insurance policies for vehicles in Beniel (10/12/2018)

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the operation 'LAYONS', an investigation aimed at clarifying some alleged scams in the contracting of insurance policies for vehicles, which has resulted in the arrest of a person as alleged author of the crimes continued fraud, misappropriation and falsification of documents.

The value of the scam exceeds 20,000 euros.

So far, about 50 people have been identified as injured, although another 800 policies are investigated for alleged irregularities.

The investigation began last September, when the Civil Guard learned that a neighbor of Beniel had faced a penalty for lacking the compulsory insurance of the vehicle when he had contracted a policy through an insurance broker established in the municipality.

The alarm jumped when other neighbors reported being victims of similar cases.

Some had learned of the absence of the insurance after suffering an incident on the road and request the corresponding towing service.

What a priori seemed isolated cases was taking a significant magnitude to coincide with the same insurance manager in all cases, which generated some social alarm in the municipality and caused many residents to appear or call the Civil Guard concerned about the validity of your insurance.

More than 800 alleged victims

La Benemérita contacted the insurance company and obtained data on the client's portfolio of the main suspect, nearly 4,000 policies that were contrasted with the database of the General Directorate of Traffic, detecting that about 800 had irregularities.

So far, agents have taken statements to fifty customers, who, allegedly, have been harmed by the fraudulent recruitment of compulsory vehicle insurance policies.

Recently, once obtained the necessary evidence, the Civil Guard has located the person who was behind these alleged criminal practices and has registered the headquarters of the insurance brokerage that runs, located in the municipality of Beniel, where they have seized numerous payment receipt stubs, letters from the Tax Agency for the payment of penalties for lack of compulsory insurance, several friendly declarations of traffic accidents, in addition to more than 20 complaints of traffic from different clients that, generally, were paid by the own corridor not to raise suspicions, although some were stored in a drawer, which led to the opening of embargo files at the Treasury for lack of payment.

Once the statements of the injured parties were gathered and the necessary documentation gathered, the Civil Guard has arrested the male, Spanish and 57-year-old insurance broker as alleged perpetrator of the ongoing crimes of fraud, misappropriation and forgery of documents.

The 'hook': low prices and personalized service

The investigation shows that the now arrested captured their customers with the 'hook' of policies at prices well below market.

To opt for these prices customers had to pay the amount in cash.

The deception was consummated with the delivery of a receipt or policy indicating the dates of coverage, although the money paid was not paid to the insurance company, so the policy was not registered.

The personalized treatment to their clients favored that they paid in hand in the confidence of being in possession of an insurance in force until, by any need happened, when presenting parts by accident or claiming other services guaranteed in the contract, they found out that their vehicle It was not insured.

So far, the operation 'LAYONS' has been settled with the clarification of fifty scams valued at more than 20,000 euros.

The investigation continues open before the irregularities detected in more than 800 policies whose holders have not yet filed a complaint.

The detainee, the documentation intervened and the proceedings ordered have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Murcia.
