The president of the CHS, Mario Urrea, met today with the mayor of Beniel, Mari Carmen Morales, with Councilor of the Ayto de Orihuela, with pediatric mayor of Alquerías, with the president of the Tabala YA Dam platform and representatives of Asaja , to analyze the situation after the DANA of September and assess possible solutions that help reduce flood risks in the Vega Baja when these meteorological phenomena occur.
Urrea has reported that the basin agency is working on two studies.
The first, which is being carried out by the CHS together with the Polytechnic University of Valencia, aims to analyze the behavior of the Segura river from the city of Murcia to its mouth, in Guardamar del Segura, and how the effects of the torrential rains and the associated increases in flow.
On the other hand, Urrea has indicated that the basin agency is working on different projects, which were already contemplated in the Avenues Defense Plan of the 90s but were not executed.
All these actions, Urrea explained, must be submitted to a cost-effectiveness analysis study.
In this sense, the president of the basin organization has insisted that you have to be very meticulous with all these actions, since you cannot save an area but that means causing problems downstream.
He has transferred the deadlines in which its implementation is planned.
Finally, Urrea has highlighted the commitment of the CHS and MITECO to analyze all the infrastructures necessary to alleviate in the future the effects of extreme rainfall events as well as replenish the river to a better situation than the one before DANA, and Consolidate annual budgets that continuously guarantee adequate conservation and maintenance of the Segura River and its tributaries and waterways.
