[Beniel has paid tribute to women and minors who are victims of gender violence on the occasion of November 25 (16/12/2020)

The Beniel City Council has commemorated November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with an act of tribute to women and minors killed by gender violence.

affects the whole of society cannot be an excuse to abandon or forget the fight against any form of sexist violence. Under the slogan "NoM sSillasVac as" a small artistic creation has been organized in the Pepe Rubio exhibition hall, located on the ground floor of the Cultural Center.

In this space, a chair has been placed for each of the victims of gender violence in this year 2020, accompanied by a bow and a brief review of their age, name, place of residence and murderer. Our dear neighbor, Cristian S nchez Hern ndez, who lost his life at the hands of his father last year, had a special place in the tribute.

On the empty chair placed in his memory, a violet butterfly, a symbol of vicarious gender violence, has been fixed. The mayor of the municipality, Mª Carmen Morales, has presided over this act, together with the Councilor for Women, Yolanda Pacheco, the mother of little Cristian, Laura Hern ndez, and his grandmother, Trini Morata.

Morales stressed "the importance of continuing to involve the whole of society in the fight against gender violence, so that we do not have to suffer any more empty chairs." The art show will be on display until next Thursday. The councilor recalled that "Beniel continues to take steps against this social scourge, promoting coordination and communication between the Local Police and the Civil Guard, with the aim of reinforcing efforts against gender violence." To begin the act, there was a minute of silence and the reading of the manifesto ended. Given the limitations imposed by the health crisis on the holding of events, the tribute has had a reduced capacity, to which only the political groups that make up the Consistory, Beniel Local Police and Civil Guard have been invited.

Within the program, an initiative has also been carried out in coordination with educational centers to make gender violence visible and a video contest aimed at young people.
