Public Works is promoting a plan for urban integration environment Segura River in the town of Beniel (25/06/2010)

The Director General of Planning and Housing Department of Public Works and Planning, Antonio Navarro, accompanied by the mayor of Beniel, Roberto Garcia, presented the awards today competition for the revitalization of the Segura River environment the municipality, the winner has been working 'Mobility 1 +3.

According to regional official said "one of the main purposes of the regional government is to assist the development of new projects that promote the revitalization of traditional indigenous and municipalities in the region. For this reason and this competition of ideas has sought to integrate urban environment Segura River in the town next to the protection of natural resources, cultural landscape of the river. "

The winning project, undertaken by the working group headed by architect Jesus Galera, was chosen from 14 proposals and has a budget of 100,000 euros for the development of a project that aims to enhance the accessibility, communication and the proper development and relationship of the urban and rural, through planning for short, medium and long term under the criteria of efficiency and utilization of indigenous resources and environmentally friendly.

The target area, located on the right bank, is defined from the so-called 'curve of Norias' old river bed, through the town to the hamlet of La Basca, with a total area of 293,500 meters squared.

"This master plan aims to regenerate an area which is the main natural landscape of Beniel and whose core values are part of the structural elements of the identity of our city, in such a way that serves to implement measures for responsible and respectful with this part of paisajísitico heritage of the region and its complete integration into the urban fabric, through appropriate equipment and services, "said Navarro.

Other distinguished projects

The second award was for the project 'Serpertario or Ophiucus and cauda and caput serpents', the architect Juan Jose Barba, while the third prize went to work 'Open Limit', conducted by a multidisciplinary team led by architect Ana Coello Llobet.

As the two runners up were for 'Little By Little', carried out by team led by architect Enrique Minguez, and work 'Integra Beniel' multidisciplinary team consisting of architects and José Antonio Giménez Montoro and architects Norberto Angeles Guillen and Campuzano.

The winners were chosen by an expert jury composed, among others, by members of the municipal corporation of the Ministry, and several experts from the public schools of Architects, Engineers, Canales y Puertos, Agricultural Engineers and of Industrial Engineers.

"For the selection of the works have been taken into account criteria such as the conceptual quality of the proposals, their suitability to the intended function and the starting conditions of the area, the clarity of exposition and its viability," said the CEO, who concluded that "this action will further improve the landscape of Beniel, while the revaluation will result in economic and social development of the catchment area of the river in a more sustainable development and improved quality of life for residents of the municipality" .
