Beniel: a municipality for sustainable development (01/07/2008)

Beniel has become a benchmark in the care of the environment.

In recent months the City Council of the municipality has worked on environmental policy with the sole aim of raising awareness to their neighbors as to support any initiative that worry about the sustainability of a clean and care.

The latest project has focused on the municipal group has been the Local Agenda 21, an environmental action plan developed and promoted by local authorities to support sustainable development.

The term sustainable development can be divided conceptually into three parts: the environment, economy and society.

This concept first appeared in the United Nations General Assembly in 1983 resulting from the work of the World Commission on Environment and Development United Nations.

This morning the mayor of Beniel, Roberto Garcia, presented before City Council members the logo of the municipality for its commitment to Local Agenda 21, together with Councillor for Environment and representatives of the Ministry of Sustainable Development in the Region of Murcia.

What is Local Agenda 21?
