The neighbors from Beniel have shown their support to the Haitian people, resorting to acts Beniel City Council held last week to raise funds for earthquake victims in Haiti.

A supportive triathlon held municipal facilities with a football game, a show of local artists and a film at the cinema, which was achieved by 4,050 euros.

The first act featured a team Real Club Deportivo Murcia Beniel and Imperial, which showed their support for this initiative to play a football match in which over 300 people attended despite the cold of the night.

Two days later, the Performing Arts Center brought together almost all the artists in town for this good cause.

The sellout crowd of the theater, showed the involvement of citizens through the disaster of the American people.

To complete solidarity activities organized by the Consistory, the film opened Pujante to project the highest grossing film in history, "Avatar."

With two assists, closed the box office that found new opportunities for many people who have lost everything.

The action of this organization in Haiti is being, like many that are involved in vital and essential for survivors and rebuilding the country.

UNICEF

unicef in action emergency

UNICEF began working in Haiti in 1949 and had been carrying out development programs (water and sanitation, child protection, education and health, among other topics) humanitarian response (most recently after the hurricanes of 2008).

We are taking an active intervention in the immediate response and maintain a long-term commitment to sustainable development of the country.

The earthquake has had a major impact on our own equipment, human and material.

However, responsiveness in collaboration with our partners and counterparts is now very high.

UNICEF is currently leading the "clusters" (thematic areas of coordination of humanitarian agencies), education (with Save the Children) and Nutrition and the specific section of child protection.

UNICEF actions first start after the earthquake

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

The ability to provide water supply are increasing every passing day.

The sanitation work is complicated by the structural weaknesses that already gave at home before the earthquake.

It is working closely with local organizations in the following areas:

Re-establishment of water and sanitation systems;

Establishment of temporary distribution systems of water as required;

Establishment of a system of quality monitoring to ensure that water supplied is potable water;

Distribution of water purification tablets and jerry cans;

Communal latrines;

Provision of hygiene kits, including soap, buckets and educational materials with hygiene messages;

Campaigns to promote hygiene, focusing initially on the continuation of effective breastfeeding and hand washing with soap;
